The Story Audit

Reading changes your perspective.

Application changes your life.

Today’s goal isn’t to read another editorial.

Today’s goal is to challenge the story that’s been shaping your decisions.

Grab a journal, open your notes app, or find a blank piece of paper.

Step 1: Identify the Story

Complete these sentences without overthinking them.

• I’ve always believed…

• People like me…

• Relationships always…

• I could never…

• I am…

Write whatever comes to mind first.

Don’t edit it.

Don’t justify it.

Just be honest.

Step 2: Challenge It

Now ask yourself:

• Where did this belief come from?

• Is this based on one experience or years of evidence?

• Is this belief protecting me or limiting me?

• If I stopped believing this tomorrow, what would change?

Step 3: Rewrite the Narrative

Don’t replace your story with a lie.

Replace it with a truth that leaves room for growth.

Instead of:

“I can’t trust anyone.”

Try:

“I’ve been hurt before, but I can learn to recognize people who deserve my trust.”

Instead of:

“I always fail.”

Try:

“I’ve experienced failure, but failure isn’t my identity.”

Instead of:

“I’m just this way.”

Try:

“I’ve been this way, but I’m capable of becoming someone different.”

This Week’s Challenge

For the rest of today, every time you catch yourself saying:

“I’ve always…”

Pause.

Ask yourself:

Is this a fact… or is it a story I’ve repeated so many times that it feels true?

Accountability Check

Before you go to bed tonight, answer this question:

Did I spend more time defending my story or changing it?

Question of the Day

What’s one story you’ve been telling yourself that you’re finally ready to let go of?
